Fight Club (1996)

By Chuck Palahniuk

Yes, Chuck Palahniuk has become that pop culture writer that’s ‘cool’ and whatever else. Yes, I agree, some of his later works have been more shocking for shocking’s sake or even cheap, in their thematic content – and admittedly I’ve not even read any of his more recent books. But Fight Club is still excellent. Tyler Durden remains one of the great contemporary literary characters and the book just works – the structure is amazing, the style is perfect and the pace moves along so effortlessly.
